Tomorrow!

I am very excited about being featured by Haute Again for the Downtown Davis Second Friday ArtAbout tomorrow. I'm a little stressed about getting all my pieces (there are fifty-two in all--an all time high!) there and hung. Mostly, I am just looking forward to sipping on a glass of wine, seeing friendly faces and chatting about painting, life and the endless possibilities of summer.

My painting was even on the front page of the local newspaper's website . Hooray!

Slipping into something different

I know some of you follow me on Facebook and may have seen that I've been dipping my toes into the ceramic world. And by world, I mean it is totally different from painting. There are so many steps and variables. For a (ahem) control-oriented person like myself, it feels good to let it go. Opening that kiln fills me with childlike giddiness and anticipation!

I have been working with simple, organic shapes in porcelain, a nice contrast to my color-filled painting realm. Going between the two has made me more creatively complete and inspired. I look forward to painting each day more than ever..and squishing clay in the in-between times. I'm so lucky to be able to do both.

Feel free to check out more of my porcelain pieces at my new etsy shop.

Something new : Project Unlaced!

I found myself in a post-Holiday slump earlier this week and decided to try something new. A lot of the pressure of painting in the past has involved me asking myself "would anyone buy this??"..which is the absolute worst way to go about creating art. You can't relax under pressure and you can't paint loosely or confidently without being relaxed.

I realized I needed to give it away. Combine that with my love of snail mail..and voila, Project Unlaced. I unearthed a pad of canvas paper, cut it into 4 x 6" postcard shapes and I'm off and running. I will post a Project Unlaced painted postcard several times a week, stick it in an envelope and send it to someone who would like a piece of original art in their mailbox.

All you need to do? Send me your mailing address and preference for a still life or landscape. Use the e-mail link under my profile to keep your address between us or leave it in a comment below. I will compile a list and send one to each of you as I complete them. Doesn't matter who you are or where you live, I will send one to you. Sounds like fun, doesn't it? Let's get started!

**I will post when I have enough pen-pals for this first round. Thank you for participating!

Last Hurrah!

I have a great little show today in Downtown Davis. This will be my last one this year! Nina is hosting some amazing local talents...she has this ability to do magical things in her little space. I still have a lot of paintings available--perfect for last-minute gifts. Grab a warm cup of cocoa and come on by! Sorry 'bout all the exclamation points. Lots of coffee this morning.

County Road 102

One last little bit for the ArtAbout show tomorrow in Downtown Davis. Visit their site for the full list of places hosting artists--it's going to be a busy night! In addition to the new pieces I've been finishing up, I'm bringing along works from my etsy shop. So, if there's something you've been wanting to look at in person, please stop by! The weather has cooled, I'll be bringing cupcakes, it's Friday..does it get any better?

Small Works Show

I've started a new series of works on laminate chips for an upcoming 2nd Friday ArtAbout show at Nina's Haute Again in Davis, September 10th. I'm painting feverishly to have a bunch of fun, affordable pieces available that evening. This one is a local farm stand we frequent. I'll be sharing more with you as I finish them.

Great Haps

Today was insane! And in the good way, not the couldn't-get-out-of-my-jammies-or-leave-the-house-way, as is the usual around here. My artwork was shown on the decor8 blog and by result I sold six paintings in my etsy shop. And as if that didn't make me jump up and down, I sold four more locally @nina's! Thank you to all who've stopped by my etsy shop, flickr and blog..the support of family and friends keeps buoying me up just when I think I'm about to sink. I am so grateful.

I hope you are having a great day, too, wherever you are.

New website!

My talented friend Amy Cluck finished up my website this week. I'm so excited about it! I love the clean look of it and the simple design really makes my paintings pop. Thank you so much Amy!

Check it out at laurenbrandy.com!
