This is painted from a really old reference photo taken here along Putah Creek when my husband and I were in college. One of my all-time favorites. I keep coming back to it. It's comforting somehow and each painting turns out differently.

Shady Oaks

I love oak trees because no two are ever alike. They grow in such crazy ways--which makes painting them fun. Lots of shadows, strange low-lying branches. I'd like to crawl under this one and take a nap. That's the kind of week it's been. Happy Friday!

Spring Glow

Another quick, sketchy painting done on a dark ground. Leaving some of the dark underpainting peeking through means no fussing. A type A person such as myself needs that every once in a while.

Another Day Done

One of the first successful paintings I did in oil was an oak tree at sunset. I enjoyed painting another and seeing how my style and approach has changed in the past years. I really like how it turned out.
