Windswept

This little one came together so nicely. After a few frustrating days, I'm grateful for that! I tried to not be too fussy with the clouds. They were such strange shapes--going up, side, this way and that. Crazy clouds.

Two More

More magnets. These were done on a black ground. I like how it gives the colors nice depth and shows the brushstrokes.

Small but mighy..

I could paint these all day and (most of the) night. How happy I am that the time change was on Sunday! I was starting to have that kooky jet-lagged feeling.

Lineup

Sometimes I get in a flat brush rut and I need to get out a scraggly round brush and do a less-angular, more impasto kind of painting. I really liked how this one turned out. Bright! Brushy! Globs!

Foothill Vines

We took a lovely trip to the coast this past weekend. I look forward to painting from some pictures we took of Ft. Bragg, Mendocino and other places along the way. Sometimes getting them off the camera card is the hardest part! Yesterday I closed my eyes and drew a picture from my stash at random to paint from. I'm crazy like that.

Tall Mustard

"Oh the mustard is high as an elephant's eye.." At least it was this summer. It was a bumper crop, thanks to the wet spring. Now it's all dried up and gone but I never tire of painting it. I've got three more paintings in the works--hopefully more to show for myself in the back half of this week. The first half just scooted on by.

Lake Alpine

A quick, sketchy painting of a view of Lake Alpine, California. Pine trees aren't my favorite thing to paint, but I'm happy I gave it a go.

New Minis

I love painting miniatures. They're quick, easy and don't allow for a lot of fussing. The size limits the level of detail--so you get the gist of light, shadow and texture. Clean, concise and colorful is what I'm going for! People seem to like them, too, which makes me equally happy.

Lisa, this cake's for you!

*all these minis (minus the cake) are now available at Nina's Haute Again in Davis

Happy Holiday weekend to those of you in the States!

Rice Sprouts

Rice production here in the Central Valley is huge. It's frequently grown in non-linear, wavy rows that curve and hug their way down the Delta. Perfect for painting!

More Minis + a show!

I finished up a few more of the wee ones for magnets. I'm hoping the weather will be warm enough to dry them quickly! I will be showing them and my other work this weekend at Indie Davis, a small local craft show featuring some wonderful local talents. I have been selling my fabric crafts at shows for years but this will be my first featuring my paintings. Thank you Nina for hosting!

I spent the last few days polishing up my displays and table covering. I'm excited and a little nervous, too. I will be putting the shop on vacay mode Thursday--fingers crossed I sell something at my booth!

New Minis

I ordered some small wood pieces from here to experiment with painting tiny scenes and making them into magnets or pin backs for upcoming shows. I lightly gessoed the front and sides and named/signed them on the back.

Nervous Knees

I have been painting daily (Almost..I took Mother's Day off. We went to the Crocker Art Gallery in Sacramento..which was good for my painting soul, so that counts!) but don't have much to show for it. It has been incredibly frustrating the past few days. A few things were unfixable and ended up in the trash. I'm hoping to power through it and find my mojo again soon!
