Billowing Cloud

Finally finished up this one yesterday. We have remained cloudless for this winter--no rain and hardly any fog. Strangely still and dry. Fingers crossed it bodes well for a wet Spring.

Converge

That point where it all comes together. Off in the distance. You can't really see it but you trust that it's there.

Late Afternoon, Co. Road 102

This stand of trees is along my favorite country road. It makes such a beautiful contrast--the warm glowing fields and the cool green grove along the creek.

Two Up High

This week has been a little chaotic so far and I haven't been able to park it at the easel like I had wished. But I eeked out this one last night. It started out as a still life but morphed into a landscape...funny how that happens.

Cloudscape No. 1

I'm hoping to do at least 5 or 6 cloudscapes for upcoming shows. I envision them displayed clustered together like family portraits.

Billowing

Another wee one on a block. Looking up into a crisp, winter sky through my leafless Sycamore tree. I cannot wait for Fall to get here. These hot days are getting to me..

Finally, a painting to share!

Today was the first day of school. Nobody cried (including me!). To celebrate, I promised myself I'd finish the painting I started, oh, four weeks ago. It's an Alaskan landscape, but I think clouds and sky are universal themes. I'm so happy to be back at the easel.

Because so many people have inquired about purchasing a piece before it is listed in the shop, I've decided to have some of my paintings available for pre-purchase. It allows me to sell them at a discount directly to you. Once the paintings are dry and ready to ship, I will remove the button and put them in my etsy shop. Just a little sneak peak buying opportunity, so you can reserve a piece right away!

On the Easel

Wacky weather makes for great clouds. Lightning, thunder, hail and 80 degree days all in one week. I am happy with the way this one is coming along. I find that the more confidently I paint, the better the outcome when it comes to skies and clouds. Loose is very very good! I should have it finished up soon. I hope you had a good weekend, wherever you are.

Pacific Sky

Being landlocked in the Central Valley, I don't get the chance to paint the ocean much. I painted this (mostly for the sky) from a photo taken ages ago.

Overhead

I enjoyed painting the sky sagging with the weight of the storm above. I thought the earth was too bright, but that's Spring in the Valley. Almost unreal.

Spot of Sunshine

From mini-hurricane to mini-heat wave. In a week! I'll take it..as long as we can get a few more days of 70's before summer. I painted this one on a black ground for contrast. Everything was dark except for this patch of wheat lit up through the clouds.

March Storm

We had some wet, wild weather last week! Sideways rain and gusty winds that seemed to make all the trees vibrate. Now just a few days later, my tulips are up and blooming.

On the Horizon

We always crave opposites, right? So while are getting enough rain to flood out all the poor earthworms, I was craving a late summer afternoon with still, hot, air and the gentle sound of dried grasses rubbing together. I thought maybe an orange underpainting would help it glow. I'm pretty happy with it!

Windswept

This little one came together so nicely. After a few frustrating days, I'm grateful for that! I tried to not be too fussy with the clouds. They were such strange shapes--going up, side, this way and that. Crazy clouds.

November Storm

I painted this (once again on a dark ground for contrast) from a reference photo taken at my sister-in-law's wedding in 2007. The incoming storm created such beautiful lighting, making all the colorful leaves vibrate. It was amazing.

Plus, it's good luck to get married on a rainy day. I speak from experience!
